Successful renewal of the sludge stabilization at a Wastewater Treatment Plant in Europe!

Techfina partnered with Sodimate to upgrade the sludge stabilization at the Niedermodern wastewater treatment plant, operated by SDEA. Designed for a nominal capacity of 14,200 Population Equivalent (PE), the facility produces sludge intended for agricultural land application.

Objective of the modifications

The primary goals of the system upgrade were to optimize the reliability of lime-sludge transfer and mixing, enhance sludge stackability and achieve 30% dryness after lime treatment.

1rst step : Replacement of the Silo Discharger and Feeder System to ensure optimal lime dosing.

2nd step : The previous paddled plow mixer and feeding pump system were removed and replaced with Sodimate’s MBV 240 twin-shaft paddle mixer and three screw conveyors, including one measuring 18 meters in length.

An innovative solution with numerous advantages:

🔹 Simplified maintenance – The MBV 240 mixer is equipped with fully removable covers, making maintenance operations faster and more straightforward. This significantly reduces downtime.

🔹 Preservation of sludge structure – The new screw conveyor system eliminates the need for polymer lubrication. Unlike pump-based conveyance, this approach prevents the denaturation and structural degradation of the sludge.

🔹 Enhanced lime-sludge mixing efficiency – This new method ensures superior stability and homogeneity of the lime-sludge mixture, meeting the increasing demands for agricultural land application standards.

This cutting-edge solution marks a significant step forward in sludge treatment, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and compliance with environmental and agricultural requirements.
