In order to make potable water, a large quantity of pollutants such as pesticides, nitrates, cleaning agents and solvents must be removed. To filter and remove these pollutants, drinking water plants use powder activated carbon (PAC), well known for its absorption and filtration capacity. The PAC’s chemical porous structure absorbs the impurities and then passes through sand filters or membranes to be removed from the process.

In order to inject PAC (usually stored in dry storage silos or bulk bag discharger) into the water stream to be heated the dry chemical is fed into a slurry mixing tank. Sodimate’s Sodimix high shear mixer allows for an efficient and dust free pre-mixing. The slurry is generally prepared at a 5% concentration, and is then transferred into the water to be heated through automated skid pumps.
